For lots of reasons, I have decided to cancel the Jan - Mar op sessions of my HO Siskiyou Line.

First, there's the fact my wife is going in for major surgery in January. Second, I have a video title I need to finish. And finally, the layout is in need of some maintenance I have been deferring because of the first two issues, so I want some time to work on the layout before we have op sessions again.

I hope to resume op sessions again in April.

Well I was afraid it might happen, and it has ... looks like I need to extend the hiatus thru May.

First off, NCE just gave me my "ship us your throttles" date for the radio upgrade: May 7th. That's too late to make a May op session.

I have one of the upgraded throttles and it's response is nothing short of fantastic. It reminds me of the reliability of the EasyDCC wireless back before things started malfunctioning.

Unfortunately, if you mix old and new throttles on the same NCE wireless system, the system performance drops to that of the non-upgraded throttles. The non-upgraded stuff is taxing the NCE wireless with endless resends. So it's best to wait until all your throttles have been upgraded.

Second, it's now looking like I'll still be putting the finishing touches on volume 5 in April, so not having an op session in April would be helpful.

Finally, I've not had the time I've been wanting to work on the layout, and I've got deferred maintenance I want to perform. If I had the summer to work on it, that would be very helpful.

So September it is. We'll have all upgraded throttles, and some better maintained locos and rolling stock. Plus there might be a few more surprises as to new things on the layout ... it is 1988, after all!

As to the wife, she's doing much better and really starting to feel her oats. It's always good to have the family healthy again ...
